McNeese State University will join area organizations Sept. 23 to
participate in Rebuilding Together, a volunteer effort to rebuild homes in
Calcasieu Parish. The workday will begin at 7:30 a.m. and end about 4 p.m.
Volunteers can work for an hour or all day, there is no minimum time
requirement.

The house assigned to the McNeese team needs interior and exterior painting,
minor carpentry work and other relatively minor repairs. Volunteers do not
need to possess any specific skills. Volunteers are needed to assist with
serving lunch and cold drinks to workers, clean up detail, registration and
other responsibilities at the work site. Faculty, staff, students and their
friends are encouraged to volunteer for this one-day community service
project.

The homeowner, an 85-year-old widow, has lived in the home for more than 50
years.

Rebuilding Together-Calcasieu will provide materials and some tools and
equipment for each work site. Lunch and drinks will be provided for
volunteers.

Area law enforcement agencies were contacted to serve as captains and
recruit volunteers for this project. Participating agencies include the
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff¹s Office, Lake Charles City Police, State Police
Troop D, Ward 3 Marshal¹s Office, Westlake Police Department, McNeese Police
Department and the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury.

Det. Jared LeBlue and Lt. Vickie Boudreaux from the MPD and Richard Rhoden,
MSU director of facilities and plant operations, are leading the McNeese
team.

The volunteer form can be found at
http://www.mcneese.edu/rebuilding_together_liability_form.pdf form, complete
it and fax the form to LeBlue at 475-5713 no later than Sept. 21.
