McNeese State University officials did not receive any reports of safety
concerns on Friday. We will continue to take appropriate measures and the
matter remains under investigation.
McNeese President Dr. Robert Hebert, issued this statement late Friday
afternoon:
³We must take every report, every potential threat to campus, seriously.
When we receive vague reports or rumors, we will gather as much information
as we can, discuss the situation with appropriate personnel and make a
decision on a course of action. Members of the university crisis response
team were engaged and monitoring this particular situation 24-hours a day
and giving me frequent updates. I urge faculty, staff and students to
contact the University Police Department immediately if they hear something
or see something that concerns them.²
It is not unusual for persons to come forward after an event and realize
that they saw or heard something out of the ordinary. Reporting concerns
about behavior changes, disturbing comments or writings can often allow us
to intervene and help someone overcome a difficult period in their life
before it escalates.
Students are encouraged to report any unusual or disturbing behavior to the
McNeese Counseling Center at 475-5136, or the Dean of Students Office at
475-5706.
The direct number for university police is 475-5711 and it is answered 24
hours a day, seven days a week.
